Claude vs ChatGPT: Which AI Should Your Sunshine Coast Business Actually Use?

The honest comparison of two market leading AI models, written by an agency that uses both daily for real client work.

Every week a Sunshine Coast business owner asks the same question: should we be using ChatGPT or Claude? The honest answer is that both are excellent, both have weak spots, and the right one depends on what you are actually trying to do.

We run both inside MP Marketing every single day. Claude does most of our writing, strategy work, and complex reasoning. ChatGPT does most of our quick lookups, image generation, and structured data work. Here is what we have learned.

Where Claude wins

Claude consistently produces better long-form writing. The prose is more natural, the structure is cleaner, and it is significantly less likely to drop into corporate cliche or that telltale AI rhythm that readers have learned to recognise and distrust.

It is also noticeably better at following nuanced instructions. If you brief it on tone, audience, and constraints, it holds onto those instructions across a long output instead of drifting halfway through. This matters enormously for anything client-facing.

For complex reasoning, particularly anything involving weighing trade-offs or analysing a business problem, Claude tends to give answers with more depth and self-awareness about its own limitations. It is more likely to say "this depends on X" and less likely to give you false confidence.

Claude is also the clear winner for tasks requiring a large context window. If you need to feed it a full proposal document, a year of analytics data, or a lengthy brief, Claude handles it with significantly less degradation in quality than GPT-4.

For coding tasks within an agentic workflow, Claude Code is a category of its own. It executes real engineering tasks, not just suggests code snippets.

Where ChatGPT wins

ChatGPT's image generation via DALL-E is meaningfully better than anything Claude offers right now. For marketing mockups, quick visual concepts, and social media creative, it saves significant time.

The plugin and GPT store ecosystem is larger. If you need a pre-built integration with a specific tool, ChatGPT's ecosystem gives you more out-of-the-box options.

For structured data extraction and function calling in specific API patterns, GPT-4's implementation is often more predictable. For production automation work that requires precise JSON output, we test both and deploy whichever behaves more reliably.

ChatGPT also has stronger voice integration via the mobile app, which matters for business owners who want to use AI hands-free.

The honest recommendation

If you are choosing one tool to use across your business and you do not have specific image generation or voice needs, start with Claude. The writing quality and instruction-following alone justify the subscription for any business that produces regular content or client-facing documents.

If you are building production automation workflows, test both on your specific use case. Default behaviour varies enough that the right answer depends on what you are building.

If budget is a constraint and you can only subscribe to one: Claude for writing-heavy businesses, ChatGPT for image-heavy businesses.

Most serious operators end up using both, because they genuinely complement each other.

The question nobody asks but should

Neither model matters much if your prompts are bad. The leverage is not in which model you use, it is in how well you brief it. A well-structured prompt to either model outperforms a vague prompt to both.

If you want to get more out of either tool, invest time in learning how to write a proper system prompt. That is where the real return is.
